On the occasion of setting up a new power plant in Kühtai, Tyrol, the Tiroler Wasserkraft AG searched for a way to explain the project to visitors.
We came up with terrain models peppered with details. 3D models of turbines, generators and the like as well as animations of the flow of power and information texts are available both on the touchscreen in the visitor centre and via app on smartphone. Detailed models of technical assets can even be placed three-dimensionally in space via augmented reality.
TIWAG, a key Tyrolean energy supplier, built a new power plant in Kühtai, Tyrol. For the project, a communication campaign was launched. The aim was to both explain the functionality of water energy and increase the transparency of the project.
That was when we came into the game. Our mission: a visual explanation, integrated in an app. We 3D-mapped the Tyrolean landscape and created detailed models of all technical features.
We decided for four navigation elements: the meta level Europe, Tyrol, Küthai and the tech-inside view. Europe shows a map with the various forms of energy spread over the countries. Tyrol shows the complex system of pipes and plants. The scene Kühtai, the essential part of the project, shows the area and how new and all plant will be interconnected.
The app then navigates into detail. All parts of the power plant are shown in 3D, additionally accessible via AR. The flow of water and the origin of energy are shown. The functionalities get transparent, even for users who are not familiar with the topic.
The production process as one of close cooperation with our client. Thanks for explaining the mystical emergence of water power to us! Now, we feel capable to spread the spark. We started by creating detailed maps of Tyrol. Next, we visualised everything below ground.
After finishing the topography, we started to work on the technical details. We created 3D-modelled and partly animated content of generator, turbine, cavern and shot-putter. The animations helped us to explain the flow of water and power.
We had engineers, communications specialists and visitor guides in our office to realise this project. Along with their expertise, we brought in our skill for visualising ideas and concepts.
Now, there is only one thing left to say: try the app yourself!
